A dream opening this morning (Tuesday) for Australia at the home World Championships in short pools in Melbourne, after the quartet of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay team broke the world record.
The team consisting of Emma McKeon, Madison Wilson, Molly O'Callaghan and Meg Harris set a time of 2:25.43 minutes and thereby broke the previous record of the Dutch women from Qatar 2014.
A few minutes later, in the men's parallel stroke, the Italian team achieved its own world record with 3:02.75 minutes.
The Italians broke the record of the United States from the championship held in China in 2018, which was 3:03.03 minutes.
The gold in 1500 meters was taken by the Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri with 14:16.88 minutes.
The first heat that opened the first evening of the finals, was the 400 meter freestyle, where the Australians celebrated another gold by Lenny Pallister, after she touched the wall at the end of 3:55.04 minutes.
American Kate Douglas is the world champion in the 200 meter medley with 2:02.12 minutes.
