World Cup 2022: Ronaldo decision made
In contrast to Cristiano Ronaldo, his greatest adversary in recent years still has a chance of winning the world title.
Lionel Messi announces his retirement from the World Cup before reaching for the World Cup in the final on Sunday.
“Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career.
Unfortunately, the dream ended yesterday," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram after the quarterfinals.
The five-time world footballer had already announced before the tournament that this would be his last World Cup.
For CR7, that doesn't have to mean the end of his career in the Portuguese national team - on the contrary.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes decision about career in Portugal national team
Cristiano Ronaldo apparently wants to continue playing for the Portuguese national team and decides against resigning.
The 37-year-old believes he can continue to help the team, wrote the Portuguese newspaper
Correio da Manhã.
Accordingly, the captain wants to lead his country at least until the EM 2024 in Germany - then he would be 39 years old.
Ronaldo does not want to make the decision dependent on who will train the national team in the future.

World Cup 2022: Ronaldo banished to the bench in Qatar – Santos decision imminent
Santos had banished his long-time companion to the bench in the 6-1 win against Switzerland in the round of 16, including a hat-trick from Ronaldo's substitute Goncalo Ramos.
In the course of this there was a real fuss about Ronaldo's departure.
However, the superstar vehemently contradicted this and made a clear statement about the speculation about a possible escape from Qatar after the World Cup.
In the quarter-finals too, Ronaldo only came on in the 51st minute, which upset his family against Santos.

“Today your friend and coach made a bad decision.
This friend for whom you have so many words of admiration and respect," wrote Ronaldo's friend Georgina Rodríguez, who made headlines at the World Cup with a two-million-euro performance, on Instagram.
Ronaldo's sister Elma Aveiro even wrote under the hashtag #FernandoSantosOut: "You killed the man, you killed the national team, you killed the nation!
You will regret it very much!”
Ronaldo decision after the World Cup: CR7 still has an ace up its sleeve
Santos, whose contract with Portugal runs until 2024, did not want to know anything about resignation after the World Cup.
However, due to the decision against Ronaldo and the sporting performance, the 68-year-old has few arguments for continued employment.
Portuguese newspaper
A Bola
suggested four potential successors in U-21 coach Rui Jorge, Wolverhampton's former coach Bruno Lage, Fenerbahçe coach Jorge Jesus and none other than José Mourinho.
Mourinho is under contract with AS Roma until 2024 and won the Europa Conference League with the Italians this year.
Cristiano Ronaldo: decision for Portugal?
Mourinho approaching
Ronaldo and Mourinho know each other from three years together (2010 to 2013) at Real Madrid.
In 2012 the player-coach duo celebrated the Spanish championship, in 2011 the Copa del Rey.
Ronaldo's decision on his future with the national team could very well rest with Mourinho.
With Mourinho at his side, Ronaldo would have an old acquaintance and advocate at his side.
The almost 60-year-old star coach and the 37-year-old ex-world footballer could cause a sensation again in their old age.
And who knows: Maybe Ronaldo will even continue until the 2026 World Cup, CR7 would definitely be capable of it – despite then 41 years.
