At the "Ma'ale Carmel" medical center, we organized a special evening together with youth movement trainees and patients to watch the World Cup semi-finals together.

The 2022 World Cup semi-finals, the Argentina team against Croatia, the whole world is watching the players on the grass with tension and in the 33rd minute, Messi scores the first goal.

At that moment, in a small auditorium located at the "Ma'ale HaCarmel" mental health hospital in Carmel Castle, a crowd of dozens of spectators rose to their feet in one human wave and roared with joy.

There, too, everyone keeps a warm place in their hearts for Argentina.

This was not just another occasion to watch an important football game together.

Yesterday, a historic event took place at the "Ma'ale HaCarmel" Medical Center: for the first time ever, a medical center for the treatment of the mentally challenged opened its doors, and invited the general public to enter its field and have a shared experience with the public of patients.

There were trainees of youth movements, residents of the city, patients of the center, their relatives and care staff.

Also the mayor of Tirat Carmel, Aryeh Tal, and the director of the medical center - Dr. Eyal Fruchter, an avid soccer fan, chose to be there in front of the big screen, and get excited together about what sports can do.

The World Cup semi-finals at Maale Carmel Mental Health Hospital

"I am very excited," Dr. Fruchter said yesterday, "this is an event where we break down the walls and host all the bodies.

There are citizens, patients, staff, families, and an amazing cooperation of the municipality of Tirat Carmel and the "Ma'ale HaCarmel" hospital, and everything is here in one big union", he noted and explained the rationale behind the unusual initiative - "We see how the whole world unites behind the game.

This is a wonderful ability that sport has, to unite and bridge conflicts, borders, beliefs, religions and differences between people.

That was exactly our intention.

To make the biggest sports event in the world, an experience that will unite people who come from different places in life and in front of one screen to break stigmas and knock down walls between the general public and the population of mentally challenged people."

Between halftime, around the food stalls that were set up outside the hall, between discussion of the moves that were on the green grass and around the shouts of joy after each goal, the excitement of this unique event was well felt all around: "This is really something unusual," said one of those present at the venue, "amazing How simple it is to create unity and common discourse. We hope this is just the beginning."

The mayor of Carmel Castle, Aryeh Tal, who was present at the site yesterday, leads the support for the initiative, to which the youth center of Carmel Castle and the community relations division of the municipality also joined: "The connection between communities is one of the pillars of Carmel Castle, and there is nothing like football to unite people. I would like to thank our partners at the Rambam Medical Center; Ma'ale HaCarmel Hospital and the director, Dr. Eil Fruchter; the residents of the city who enjoyed the experience; and also Leo Messi and the Argentina national team, for a fantastic game on the way to the final."
