The 68-year-old Santos, who took office in the summer of 2014, was fired by Fernando Gomes, the president of the association, who decided that the Portuguese did not deserve credit for the previous achievements of his tenure.
Santos, who managed 109 matches on the lines of the Portugal national team, led Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates to win Euro 2016 and the Nations League in 2019.
