The Portuguese Football Federation announced the dismissal of Fernando Santos from the task of coaching the national team, after losing to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The federation said in a statement on its official website that Santos' contract was terminated following the sudden loss suffered by the Brazilian European national team, a match in which the coach excluded Portugal's historic top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, from the starting line-up.
Santos led Portugal in 109 matches and won the European Championship 2016. Under his leadership, Portugal won the first edition of the Nations League in 2018-2019.
