The one who was one of the stars of the Yugoslavia national team, one of the most prominent players in Serie A and then also one of the top coaches in Italy, succumbed to leukemia after a struggle that lasted for about three years

A sad end: Sinisha Mihailovic passed away at the age of 53. The Serb had been fighting leukemia for the last few years, a cursed disease that attacked him again two and a half years after he had already recovered from it, and this time it defeated him.

Mihailovich announced at a press conference that he returned to fight leukemia in March of this year.

He was the coach of Bologna for the past three years and received great support from the club who remained loyal and allowed him to remain in the position even when he was absent from the fields for very long periods due to the difficult treatments he underwent, even though he was fired on September 6 of this year.

"I was advised to start a treatment that can stop the disease before it spreads," said Mihailovich at the press conference he held about six months ago, "this time I will not let it set in, but I will undergo preliminary treatment. I am here, if the first lesson was not enough for this disease, then I will give her more One. This is the way of life, there are ups and downs. There are also pits you can fall into, but you always have to find the strength to get back up."

But in world football.

Mihajlovic was one of the stars of the Yugoslavia national team throughout the 90s and the most prominent players in the Italian league since he landed in Serie A in 1992, after a record season at Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

Roma was the first team to give him the stage in the land of the boot and from there he continued to Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter, from which he retired in 2006.

He started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Inter right after retirement and Bologna was the first to give him a chance as head coach in 2008.

He also coached Catania, Fiorentina, the Serbian national team, returned to Sampdoria, continued to Milan and Torino, moved to Sporting Lisbon and closed a circle in Bologna when he returned there in January 2019, but in July of that year he announced that he was diagnosed with leukemia.

As mentioned, he fought leukemia and managed to recover, but not when it returned in 2022 and defeated him.
