The former Serbian player, Sinisa Mihajlovic, passed away today (Friday) at the age of 53, after three years of battling blood cancer.

He is considered a football legend back in the former Yugoslavia, as a senior national team player and also as the one who led Red Star Belgrade to win the European Champions Cup in 1991.

An uncompromising midfielder, Mihailovic then embarked on an impressive career in the Italian league, where he played for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter.

With the last two he won the Italian double.

After retiring at the age of 37, he began coaching in Italy, including Milan, Sampdoria and Fiorentina.
