For 36 years they waited for this, were humiliated along the way, went to bed crying after quite a few difficult moments, certainly in the World Cup, but last night (Sunday) the nightmare of the Argentinians ended.
After great drama, they saw their heroes defeat France in a penalty shoot-out and bring home the most coveted trophy in world football.
Carrying the country's iconic blue-and-white flags, hats and shirts, the Argentinians took control of downtown Buenos Aires and other iconic locations within minutes of the victory as more celebrations broke out across the country.
There were attempts to digest and, above all, great joy, which experienced the first time in their lives.
"I can't believe it! It was hard, but we did it, thanks to Messi," said Santiago, 13, as he celebrated the win with his family.

"It was an amazing game, sometimes excruciating," added 46-year-old Diego Aborgilli, who was interviewed from his residence in one of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
"This team made people fall in love with the Argentina national team again for the first time in decades."

"It's a huge joy after so much stress," Nicholas Pirie, a 46-year-old lawyer, told Reuters. "The harmony between the players of the national team, led by a leader who plays at a level that makes him the best in the world, and the condition of the players in general has led us to this well-deserved success. Let's celebrate To Argentina!"
