The striker who won the Ballon d'Or title, and became the first Frenchman to do so since 1988, was supposed to be a central screw in Didier Deschamps' squad - but was injured near the start of the games and did not appear for the big tournament.

Before the final, it was reported in France that Benzema "dared" to reject the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and he is determined not to reach the final, in contrast to Angola Kante and Paul Pogba, who actually came with the president.

The Spanish "AS" wrote on the subject: "Benzema was thrown out of the national team because he did something unforgivable. They are still angry with him in the national team after the Matthew Valbuena recording incident."
