The Erding Gladiators scored their biggest win in years on Friday night in their only game of the weekend.

Erding - tail light EC Pfaffenhofen was dealt with 14:1 goals - and was still well served.

Anyone who believed that the new Eishogs coach, Stefan Teufel from Erding, would be deeply contrite or even bitter because of this harsh rebuff was disappointed.

He took it easy and on the bright side: "I watched the Gladiators in training on Wednesday - we had no training then - and saw what kind of train is behind it," said Teufel.

"And if you then play like we do, you don't have to be surprised about such a mega-swatter." Then he ironically alluded to his statement before the game that he wanted to win or at least really annoy the Gladiators.

"The coach apparently opened his mouth too wide," he said, laughing.

"But that's just like in real life: You take three or four steps forward and sometimes take one or two steps back.

It was very entertaining for the Erdinger spectators.

"Not like that for me now", said the ECP trainer, "but that's life".

A "great game" certified Erding's team manager Felix Schütz of his team.

He particularly liked the power play with five goals in the first five overtime games.

"Slowly, a structure can be seen," he said, only to step on the euphoria brakes again: "The important games are yet to come."

When asked what he said to his team during the breaks between thirds, Teufel explained that in the first break, when the score was 1:4, he "became a little louder".

"I tried to tickle their honor." Later he gave them courage.

"You can act like a HB male, that's no use," said Teufel.

"And it's no use swearing at the players or packing your bag and leaving." A few mistakes would have annoyed him.

"As an inexperienced coach, you're just aggro - but you learn that." He considered a goalkeeper change.

"But I was standing behind my substitute keeper, who had his pants way down," said Teufel with a mischievous grin.

"That's why I didn't do it."

Schütz said he hopes “that my boys will become even more self-confident”, especially when it comes to running and passes.

The young players in particular should have fun with ice hockey, "but you have to kick their ass from time to time," he said with a smile.

Goalkeeper Patrick Mayer was praised for his first appearance of the season: "He may not have much match practice, but he held up great and remained stable."

Next Friday, in the home game against Schongau, both regular keepers, Thomas Hingel and Christoph Schedlbauer, should be back, according to Schütz, as well as Sebastian Busch.

The Mammuts, fifth in the table, are of a different caliber than the Eishogs, and there will definitely not be a 14:1 there.
