TSV 1860: Köllner kindles the fire – is an ex-Premier League professional coming?

"I'll go ahead to rekindle enthusiasm," coach Michael Köllner promised recently after TSV 1860 fell from second to sixth place before the World Cup break.

– "You can only kindle a fire if you burn yourself." Less than a week before Christmas Eve, it can be said in a positive sense: the fire in Giesing is burning - and the lions are still going into a contemplative pre-Christmas period for three reasons.

On the one hand, for the first time since 2019 and after two corona-related breaks, an Advent singing took place on Saturday in the Grünwalder stadium.

According to Martin Scherbel, chairman of the organizer “Freunde des Sechzgerstadion”, an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people flocked to the otherwise emotional epicenter of Giesing at temperatures around freezing point.

“We were really happy about that.

It was a great evening!” Scherbel enthuses to our newspaper.

TSV 1860: Pleasing tests against Nuremberg and Hoffenheim

The performances on the pitch also give reason to celebrate.

Köllner scheduled five friendlies during the winter break before going back to third division points at Waldhof Mannheim on January 14th.

The Löwen completed two of them at the weekend in double pack mode - and Köllner could be satisfied.

Against 1. FC Nürnberg on Friday, his team showed that they have second division quality in good moments.

Shortly before the end, Stefan Lex scored the 1-0 winner against Köllner's former club.

Only 25 hours later it was time for the XL test at first division club Hoffenheim on Saturday.

1860 lost 2:3 over 120 minutes, but showed morale and came back twice after goals from Marcel Bär and Albion Vrenezi.

"The two days were really worth it," said Köllner happily.

Incidentally, the upward trend is impressive far beyond the borders of Munich.

The fact that ex-Premier League professional Lukas Rapp (Norwich) can actually imagine moving to the third division proves the appeal that the club still has.

It might also help with the time factor.

The first deal should be finalized before the training camp in Belek (from January 3rd).

"We have to get down to business by January 2nd," said Köllner on "dieblaue24".
