Two different moods: Hernandez celebrates, Zachenhuber dejected

Erding/Göppingen – “That was a short story – actually too short,” says Uwel Hernandez and laughs.

The 30-year-old professional boxer from Erding won his prestige fight against Gusmyr Perdomo in the first round.

After the second downfall, the Venezuelan's coach had thrown in the towel.

Hernandez wants to get back in the ring in February.

Actually, two professional boxers from Erding should have stepped into the ring at different places at the same time.

But then Hernandez, who competed in Göppingen, was the only one because Simon Zachenhuber's fight in Eggenstein near Karlsruhe was canceled at short notice (see below).

"The excitement before the fight was there," says Hernandez.

“Perdomo is an experienced man and he's a southpaw – I've never boxed against someone like him.” In order not to leave anything to chance, a sparring partner, Pavel Semjonov, was flown in from Estonia.

"He is a Russian by birth who has lived in Estonia for a long time and has also become national amateur champion there ten times." Hernandez had once fought against him.

"I won, but it was a controversial decision," admits Erdinger, who found the preparation with Semjonov "great".

"Southpaws have the right hand in front, i.e. the leading hand, so they are therefore with the liver side in front and are accordingly susceptible to liver hooks," explains Hernandez.

"And that was also our tactic, that I would get on my nerves." This tactic ultimately worked.

Perdomo initially hit a lot with his lead hand, Hernandez always managed to dodge.

"Then I hit him well a couple of times, he went down and he had to be counted," says the 30-year-old.

When the fight resumed, it was just over 20 seconds before "I hit him in the head and liver and then he didn't know where he was," Hernandez describes the scene.

The result: the towel flew out of the Venezuelan's corner.

"Of course, I would have wished for a longer fight for the experience," admits Erdinger.

"On the other hand, a knockout win in the first round doesn't look so bad on the vita," says Uwel Hernandez with a laugh.

Simon Zachenhuber dejected: fight burst at the last second

The disappointment is huge for Simon Zachenhuber.

His fight against Deniz Altz (22) from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, which was scheduled for Saturday evening, burst at the last second.

"He canceled due to illness," reports Zachenhuber.

There was quite a bit of back-and-forth about the fight before (we reported).

Actually, the 24-year-old should have competed against Altz at the boxing night in Wangen im Allgäu.

A few days earlier, the two main fighters Timo Schwarzkopf and Altin Zogaj – both of Zachenhuber’s training partners – had contracted the flu – the boxing night was cancelled.

At first there was talk of Göppingen as an alternative event – ​​where Uwel Hernandez also competed, but in the end the decision was made to go with “Petko's Fight Night” in Eggenstein near Karlsruhe.

"We had just arrived in Karlsruhe when we received the news that Deniz Altz had a fever and couldn't box," reports Zachenhuber.

"But the organizers thought they could find a substitute." He prepared himself as usual, was also at the official weigh-in, but in the end it didn't work out - a substitute opponent could not be found in such a short time.

"It can happen that way," says Zachenhuber with a slight resignation in his voice.

"It would have been a perfect end to this year.

But it doesn't help anything.” How is it going on with him?

"I'll continue training until Christmas, then I'll have a few days of vacation," says the 24-year-old.

"And next year it's on - I'm hoping for a fight in February or March."
