The final whistle in the final game was also the whistle to start the celebrations that lasted until the next day • The crowds, of all ages, flooded the streets of the capital Buenos Aires singing - from the national anthem, through "Who doesn't jump is an Englishman", to the World Cup hit "Muchachos, now We were excited again" • The trophy returned home: photos as a souvenir

Doha had a hard time recovering from the World Cup final yesterday.

The Argentinian fans continued to celebrate in the frenzy of the game, and the celebrations did not miss the city's international airport as well, with a great singing of "Muchachos" - the tournament song of the Albiceleste fans, and the new unofficial anthem of Argentina.

The celebrations lasted all night.

The broadcasts to Israel have ended, but in the streets of Qatar the celebration has only just begun.

Hundreds of thousands poured into the streets of Lucille, for the big party that was planned.

The police cleared the roads, which were filled with bands, magicians, clowns, drummers, walkers on crutches, bikers and more, to the best of the imagination of the director of this graduation party.

The icing on the cake was the winning team: the players left the field in a bus wrapped in Argentine flags, standing on the top, holding the trophy and waving to the crowds.

Usually, that victory lap status with the trophy is saved for coming home.

But Qatar - just like with the cloak placed on Messi, and just like in every other moment in the World Cup - did what they wanted.

The Argentines cooperated and drove the fans crazy, with a grandiose display of fireworks over the bay in the background.

It was a glorious ending to a glorious game that everyone who was present (and even those who just watched on TV) will never forget.

A finale that had it all: drama and tragedy, joy and sadness, and all this in a script that exceeded all imagination - in the end, as in fairy tales, good won.

Yes, Kylian Mbappe gave the game of his life, scored a hat trick and finally proved that he belongs to the greatest.

Yes, the refereeing in the game was friendly plus for the Argentines.

And despite that - Argentina deservedly won, and Messi crowned himself king of the world, as everyone hoped.

A little more magic

Argentina and France have already flown home, and with them legions of fans, journalists, businessmen and everyone who took part in the World Cup.

The players (except those who play in England, where the league resumes next week) went on a short break, and will return to play only at the beginning of the new civil year.

The two great heroes of the tournament and the final, Messi and Mbappe, will then meet again in Paris - this time as partners in the next effort of their sponsor, Qatar, to bring the Champions League to its baby, Paris Saint-Germain.

On the way there they will play in all kinds of fields in Toulouse and Auxerre, the furthest in the world from the record position they shared the other day.

Qatar, along with Argentina, is the big winner of this World Cup.

It has proven not only that it is capable of hosting the biggest event in the world, but also to do so with great success.

And yet, Qatar is wrong if it thinks this will dramatically change its image in the world.

It didn't work for Russia after the World Cup in 2018 - and it won't work now, because Qatar will go back to being the closed and conservative country it was.

But none of this is of interest to Argentina, who are now enjoying the enormous achievement that Messi and his friends have arranged for them.

It is pure joy, so worthy of a country that truly loves football, and knows how to celebrate it in the most authentic way.

Argentina will reach the next World Cup in 2026 as the cup holder.

Messi did announce that he continues in the national team, but it is not certain that he will be there.

The organizers - a political triangle of the USA, Canada and Mexico - are certainly praying that this will happen, in order to receive at least a little more of the magic that enveloped Qatar in the last month, and traveled the entire world.
