After Manuel Neuer's end of the season, FC Bayern is looking for a new goalkeeper.
A hot lead leads to Gladbach's keeper Yann Sommer.
Munich – After the end of the season by captain Manuel Neuer (36), there is an uproar on Säbener Straße.
The decision-makers around sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (45) are feverishly looking for a replacement for the injury-related absence of the long-time regular keeper.
A real goalkeeper problem has arisen at FC Bayern.

One thing is clear: With permanent backup Sven Ulreich (34) and young goalkeeper Johannes Schenk (19) between the posts, it will not be enough for the record champions to dance successfully at all three weddings.
In the round of 16 of the Champions League, a real chunk awaits Munich with the star ensemble from Paris Saint-Germain around the dreaded offensive trio Neymar-Mbappe-Messi.

So a winter newcomer is needed who has what it takes to play at the top level as a regular goalkeeper at least until the end of the season.
The number one transfer target for Bayern bosses is Alexander Nübel (26), who has been on loan to AS Monaco since 2021.
But whether the ex-Schalke will find his way back to Säbener Straße seems more than questionable at the moment.

Because Bayern have no return clause in Nübel's loan agreement.
The consequence: a transfer fee would be due for the 26-year-old.
So far, AS Monaco has shown no interest in giving up their first-choice goalkeeper before the end of the season.
The club from the small principality will return to league operations on December 28th.
Finding a replacement for Nübel by then is almost impossible.
In addition, the Monegasques have already expressed their interest in keeping Nübel beyond the summer of 2023.
Furthermore, the Nübel side is extremely aggressive.
It was only last September that the goalkeeper made it clear that he did not want to play for Bayern Munich as long as Manuel Neuer was still active.
However, his contract runs until 2024. In addition, the relationship between Nübel and goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic (42), a close confidante of Neuer, is considered broken.
Last but not least, Nübel agent Stefan Backs confirmed this.
Neuer's adviser Thomas Kroth then fired back.

Bayern bosses are on the lookout for goalkeeper alternatives - hot lead leads to Yann Sommer
The Bayern bosses have to look around for better or worse for alternatives.
Croatia's penalty hero Dominik Livakovic (27) should be on the record champions' list, and multiple Champions League winner Keylor Navas (36) was also last traded.
Morocco's keeper Bono (31) is also considered a plan B.
But the hottest lead so far is Yann Sommer (34) from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Sommer's contract expires in 2023, and an extension is currently not in sight.
Rather, the goalkeeper should deal with a departure from Mönchengladbach - at the latest in the summer, but probably already in the winter.

At least on paper, Yann Sommer seems to be a good solution.
However, it is unclear whether the 34-year-old is ready to move back into second place if Manuel Neuer returns next season.
But before that, many other questions have to be clarified in Bayern's goalkeeper problem.
