After almost eight months in prison, Boris Becker returned to Germany on Wednesday.

But what's next for the tennis legend?

Munich – There was great disappointment when Boris Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London at the end of April for bankruptcy offences.

The 55-year-old spent more than seven months in two different British prisons, but is now free again.

As the British news agency PA reported on Thursday, Becker was deported to his home country of Germany, he is said to have landed near Munich on Wednesday.

It is unclear exactly how things will continue.

Why was Boris Becker allowed out of prison?

Officially, Becker only served around eight of his 30 months in prison.

UK law normally requires prisoners to serve at least half of their sentence before being allowed out on parole.

Thus, Becker should not have been released from Huntercombe until July 2023.

But the Leimener is probably faced with a special circumstance.

As a foreign prisoner, he could now be deported earlier thanks to a special release and deportation program.

The program aims to counteract overcrowding in British prisons.

Any prisoner from abroad who can be released from prison and deported up to twelve months before the earliest release date can be considered for this.

It is curious that Becker actually intended to become an English citizen, but never actually did so.

Boris Becker deported from England - tennis legend landed just before Munich

Becker's deportation also caused a stir in the English press, as it was possibly paid for with British taxpayers' money.

Becker was flown out by private jet on Wednesday and, due to the weather, did not land at Munich Airport as planned, but was diverted to the special airport in Oberpfaffenhofen in the west of the Bavarian capital.

A private plane from London is said to have landed there at 3:23 p.m.

As reported by the English media, this flight was paid for.

According to various reports, a Munich broadcaster has secured exclusive rights for an interview.

However, so far there is no evidence that Becker reported on television about his last months in prison.

Only a new documentary in which Becker tearfully talks about his "low point" has already been announced.

What's next for Boris Becker?

A question that now arises: is Becker now a free man?

Apparently yes, because you can't be prosecuted more than once for the same offense or crime.

Whether the three-time Wimbledon winner also has to comply with probation requirements in Germany has not yet been communicated.

However, he will probably not be allowed to enter Great Britain for a long time.

According to a report in the British newspaper

, the entry ban will apply for as long as the original punishment would have lasted.

Becker should therefore not be allowed to go to the country where his partner Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro lives until the end of October 2024.
