In addition to honors for long-standing membership, the Freising referee group looks back on the year 2022.

The impartial offspring continues to cause concern.

Freising – At the end-of-year celebration of the Freising referee group, Stefan Gomm, chairman of the Freising referee group, looked back on the past year and appealed to the clubs: “We urgently need new older players who want to become referees.” The referee group appointed Freising as a new honorary member Karl Toth from SpVgg Zolling.

Chairman Gomm appeals: "We urgently need new referees between the ages of 30 and 40"

Gomm informed that the number of football games has decreased significantly in recent years.

In 2019, there were still around 3,500 games to be filled with referees, but this year there were only 2,688. "That has to do with the decreasing number of teams, but above all with the many game communities in the youth field," explained the head of the Freising referees.

He worries whether there will still be enough referees available in the long run.

"I hope that our boys will stick with it," said Gomm.

“But we urgently need new referees who are between 30 and 40 years old.” The group of referees will be busy promoting this over the next few weeks and, together with the group of referees in Erding, will be offering courses for newcomers in Marzling and Altenerding in the coming year.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

For BFV district chairwoman Elisabeth Bauer, the quality of the referees comes before quantity.

"In my many observations of games in the district I have seen many very good referees, for example Iris Spitaler, but also bad ones." Bauer asked the referees not to put up with anything on the pitch.

She also expressly thanked the partners of the referees.

"They have to put up with you at home when you come home after a bad day."

Gerhard Kirchbichler, member of the district referee committee, thanked Stefan Gomm for his "targeted work" and his commitment, and above all all the referees.

Because the tone on the playing fields is becoming more and more emotional and rough, it is anything but easy to manage a game.

"Thank you to everyone who stayed with us anyway."

Karl Toth (3rd from left) was appointed a new honorary member.

Günter Lanzinger from SG Eichenfeld is Freising's referee of the year

Kirchbichler is very concerned that many games in the lower leagues will soon no longer be able to be staffed with referees.

District referee chairman Hans Kroll hopes that in the future more young referees from the district will stand out through their achievements and bring what it takes to be able to whistle at a higher level - in the state or Bavarian league.

Gomm also thanked for the very good and harmonious cooperation not only within the Freising referee group, but also at district and district level, and was particularly pleased to be able to appoint a new honorary member with Karl Toth from SpVgg Zolling.
