The world champion is at home.

The Argentine national soccer team was celebrated by their fans in an open bus in Buenos Aires.

The government made Tuesday a national holiday, according to police, around five million people were out and about in the capital.

The parade was supposed to end here, at the obelisk in the center of the city.

But the party didn't go as planned.

As the bus carrying superstar Lionel Messi and his team-mates passed under a bridge, some supporters weren't satisfied with cheering for their team and wanted to get even closer.

It is not known how the fan who fell off the bus is doing.

Later, the triumphal ride in the bus was canceled for safety reasons, and the team never reached the obelisk.

The players were transported by helicopter.

Messi has now arrived in Rosario, arriving in his hometown by private jet alongside Paulo Dybala and Ángel di María.

Argentina beat France in the final on Sunday.

Victory on penalties meant the country's first World Cup title since 1978, when it was with Diego Maradona.

It was also the crowning glory for Messi, who had been missing this title.

During the night, the peaceful celebration mood in Buenos Aires changed.

Fans delivered violent clashes with the police.

According to local media, officials tried to remove two people from the top of the obelisk, the monument is accessible from the inside.

After that, fans are said to have thrown objects at police officers.

There was also looting in some parts of the city.

The situation in Argentina has been tense for some time, the country is in an economic crisis and has one of the highest inflation rates in the world.

The joy of winning the World Cup only seems to have covered the problems for a short time.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of the video stated that Argentina had last won the World Cup in 1982.

In fact, before the current title, the country last became world champion in 1986.
