During his stay in prison, Boris Becker also experienced situations in which he feared for his life.

In the Sat.1 interview, he spoke in detail about two drastic moments.

Munich – Boris Becker has been free again since last week.

After his early release from prison in England and the subsequent deportation to Germany, the tennis legend is now apparently making a fresh start.

As a result, Becker took the opportunity to share his experiences from his difficult time in prison in a television interview.

The 55-year-old also spoke about the dangers behind bars, as reported by tz.de.

Boris Becker thanks his fellow prisoners: "You saved my life"

On Saturday evening, the previously announced special show with Becker took place on Sat.1.

Moderator Steven Gätjen, who had already visited the six-time Grand Slam winner in Huntercombe prison, conducted the interview with the fallen sports star.

Becker spoke without hesitation about the unpleasant situations he had experienced in the last eight months.

In Wandsworth - the first of two detention centers Becker was held in London - he went through a period when he apparently did not feel safe.

As he reports in the interview, he had the protection of three fellow prisoners there.

"I will never forget Jake, Russell and Billy, they saved my life at Wandsworth, they really looked after me.

We were a tight-knit gang and did everything together for the next four weeks," says Becker.

Boris Becker tells of blackmail attempts: "He wanted my money"

During this time, Becker was obviously afraid that something bad could happen to him.

When asked by Gätjen, the man from Leimen spoke of a precarious situation with a fellow inmate, whom he only called John in the interview.

“He was very nice to me for the first two or three weeks, he had been in prison for multiple murders for 25 years.

But he wanted my money - or thought I could pay him money," recalls Becker.

"Then he started to blackmail me.

If I don't pay him this or that, he'll show me.

And he's done it before with others.

I was protected from him, for example,” says Becker.

"Unfortunately, that turned out to be very dangerous."

But this wasn't the worst experience for the three-time Wimbledon winner.

"In Huntercombe I really had a so-called altercation

with

a prisoner who wanted to kill me," says Becker.

"He has also been in prison for over sixteen years, it is said that prisoners have problems with the outside world after seven years and experience a personality change due to psychological damage," explains the tennis icon.

The prisoner concerned had "killed two people at the age of 18", so he was dangerous.

"And he couldn't understand that I was so well organized with black prisoners - I have to call my cell neighbor Ike - and wanted to do the laundry," reports Becker.

The prisoner "explained to him verbally what he was going to do with me", but the attacker underestimated Becker's position in the prison wing.

After his attack, the other inmates stood behind Becker.

"He yelled loudly, so the other inmates came out immediately and threatened him.

The ten prisoners said to him: 'Either you go out, or there will be up to twelve.'” Becker describes the situation.

"I was shaking, still holding my food tray."

Ultimately, the fellow inmates managed to get the attacker to apologize to the German.

"Those were the two moments when I was really afraid for my life," the former tennis star describes the two anecdotes from prison.

Now Becker is back in Germany and is working towards his new start, even if he doesn't imagine his future in the Federal Republic.

His emotional interview not only caused positive reactions, there was also a lot of scorn on the internet.
