Shino Zoertz, who is competing for the position of chairman of the Football Association, held a press conference today (Thursday) in which he resigned. One of the biggest supporters of Zoertz in facing Oren Hasson, the incumbent chairman, is the president of Maccabi Haifa Yaakov Shahar.

Shahar was asked why he should face Hasson, whose people claim that this is the best period of the association for football: "I have nothing personal against Oren. My joining Shino is to improve the system. I have been in football since the age of 12, and throughout this period things change. In 30 years that I've been the owner of Maccabi Haifa, we've made so many changes to improve and move forward. I don't see that anything has changed in the way of choosing the people in the association, and when Shino explained his belief to me I immediately told him that it suits me and that I join him, because Shino is talking about change That we don't do in football."

Shahar commented on the recent achievements of the national teams: "Did they win in the youth? That's not what speaks to me, today they win and tomorrow they lose, but the system needs to change. Everything has been the same for decades. People have entered who have nothing to do with football at all, and it's time to change. I strongly believe that we have changed will get the right power to change and we will help him. I don't like the way Oren chose to fight back and win, it's not my way, but I have nothing against him. I saw a number of programs where he went on the air and attacked, mainly the big teams, Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv who supposedly want to take over the association. No one knows how many times I was offered to be chairman of the association, it's not interesting, we want to improve football and I'm not interested in one position or another."

Shahar addressed the claim that he wants to 'abolish' the small groups: "Everyone sitting here knows how many times I have helped small groups, you can ask Avi Luzon that every time I had to get a grant from UEFA I told him, 'Leave some for Sakhnin, they don't have money for salaries.

Do you know what funds the association works from?

from the funds taken from the directorate.

If I have to pay ten percent on the tickets I sell, and everyone knows that Sami Ofer is full, then who owns the association?

The big groups.

So we should take over?

It's absurd.

Is Oren disappointed in me?

He is right.

He thinks I'll be with him and he's disappointed that I'm not."
