"Would have been a security risk": Jürgen Klopp describes failed prison visit to Becker

Jürgen Klopp actually wanted to visit his friend Boris Becker in prison.
However, the ex-tennis star was ultimately not allowed to receive the Liverpool coach.
Munich – Boris Becker has been back in Germany for a week after his release from prison.
After his deportation to Germany, the former tennis star promptly gave a television interview in which he spoke at length about his experiences in prison.
Becker also said that visitors were denied, for example Jürgen Klopp wanted to visit him.
The Liverpool coach now described his view of things, as reported by tz.de.

Boris Becker: prison management denied him a visit from Jürgen Klopp
In the exclusive Sat.1 interview on Tuesday evening, moderator Steven Gätjen asked Becker about his visiting hours, after which he went into detail.
"I'm very good friends with Jürgen Klopp and he wanted to visit me in Huntercombe," said Becker of the situation.
But the anticipation was followed only by disappointment.
"I gave the name and then the answer came: 'Jürgen is not allowed to visit you because he is too well known.
We're afraid for his safety, we don't want the hype, unfortunately we have to turn it down.'” The 55-year-old recalls.
"I then spoke to Jürgen, who said he was sorry."

However, Becker showed understanding for the decision of the prison administration.
"You were in a room where you sat table to table with criminals and they didn't want anything to happen that was bad for Jürgen (...) or the prison." Becker has apparently finished with the disillusionment he experienced and can understand the point of view of the prison.
Klopp also commented on the failed visit to prison.
“Boris is the great idol of my childhood and youth.
We first met at Wimbledon seven years ago.
My wife Ulla organized that at the time.
She knew that I really wanted to get to know him," the Premier League coach described

"I followed his entire career and was a huge fan.
We then spent a sensational evening in Wimbledon – we were on the same wavelength and had a lot of fun,” he recalls.
Due to the different schedules of the two sports stars, they “remained loosely in touch afterwards”.

Klopp reports about phone calls with the imprisoned Becker.
"We then spoke on the phone and I told him, among other things, that he absolutely had to write a book.
He then said: 'Yes, but I don't think anyone believes what it's really like here.'” said the native of Stuttgart.

Klopp stressed that it was "just particularly important for him to support Boris and to tell him that we will not let him fall" and obviously regrets the prison's decision.
"Unfortunately I couldn't visit him because according to the authorities I would have been a security risk if I visited.
That's why it didn't work.
But that’s no longer important either – what matters is that Boris is free again.”
After the difficult time before and during his imprisonment, Klopp wishes the fallen sports star Becker, who according to his own statement does not see his future in Germany, “above all that he is simply happy.”
