Bayern Munich's soccer team have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League as runners-up in their group.
The team of Norwegian coach Alexander Straus defeated Benfica 2-0 (0-0) on Wednesday evening on their home campus.
However, the top team FC Barcelona, tied on points, did not slip in the parallel game against bottom club FC Rosengard and swept the Swedes 6:0 (3:0) off the field.
Bayern and Barça qualified for the knockout rounds before the group finals, with both clubs claiming five wins in the group stage.
Klara Bühl scored both goals for the current Bundesliga runners-up in the 51st and 75th minutes, prepared in both cases by Georgia Stanway.
The English European champions had led the club to a 3-2 win in the spectacular first leg after falling 2-0 down with two late goals.

The hostesses controlled the match, but without the injured captain Lina Magull, they often lacked a helping hand in midfield.
On Thursday, VfL Wolfsburg could move into the last eight as group winners.
In order to secure first place in Group B, a win at the Austrian title holder SKN St. Pölten is required.
Quarterfinals and semifinals will be drawn on February 10th.
A German duel is not excluded.
