Cycling: new name, increased budget… St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 sees bigger in 2023

2022-12-22T17:00:27.798Z

The Seine-Saint-Denis pro team, 30th season in the peloton, has announced the arrival of a new co-sponsor Mavic to continue to make great

In 2023, Auber, the pro team of 93 will live its 30th season in the peloton.

For his manager Stéphane Javalet, 61, the adventure has not always been a long calm river.

There have been difficult periods, uncertain tomorrows with the withdrawal of sponsors (BigMat twice in particular).

But even with ric-rac budgets, the structure has always been able to be sustained.

“I've always done it my way without getting overwhelmed,” explains Javalet.

The economic model of cycling remains fragile but I am happy to have been able to find a certain serenity with secure partnerships in the medium term.

This Thursday, Auber announced the arrival of the Mavic company as co-sponsor for its two pro teams, men and women.

With a budget revised upwards and which even doubles for girls, St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 (new name) will be able to continue to grow both in its 3rd division men's team and in women's UCI (2nd division).

“With Mavic, we are at a turning point in our common history, and our mixed project with the arrival of the Pro Women team was a first step in 2022, continues Javalet.

By becoming, St Michel-Mavic-Auber93, we are taking an additional step to continue to grow, by working over time to take new steps.

Mavic supports us in our expansion.

The women's team which took part in the Tour de France in 2022 where it shone (Coralie Demay was the 3rd French rider overall) should still take a step forward in 2023. Its season will also begin in Australia, at the Tour Down Under where she was invited.

The medium-term objective will be to reach the Women's World Tour (the 1st division) where there is only one French team for the moment, the FDJ-Suez-Futuroscope.

“There are prospects for development, but in addition to having to meet financial specifications, you will also have to achieve good results to prove that you can have your place there,” warns Javalet.

The name of a latest recruit, a very experienced French runner, will soon be announced.

"Rudy Barbier did not come to our house to string the pearls"

But if the women's team seems more and more like the bridgehead of the St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 project, Stéphane Javalet does not neglect the men's team.

With the departures of historical runners (retirement for Stéphane Rossetto and Tony Hurel who becomes sports director, Yoann Paillot as amateurs) and sprinter Jason Tesson (TotalEnergies), two runners who were racing in the World Tour, sprinter Rudy Barbier (Israel-Premier Tech ) and Théo Delacroix (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) have arrived.

The mixed course which has just ended in Calpe (Spain) shows that the automatisms and the cohesion are already there.

“We see that Rudy Barbier did not come to us to put on the pearls, he wants to win back races after two somewhat complicated years with Israel, explains Javalet.

Romain (Cardis) is still there and we have proven that we can have a high performance train.

We have a great team, I'm convinced that the boys will also give Auber visibility this year.

For the future, there are also prospects.

I am convinced that the economic model of the 2nd men's division will also evolve and that teams of our profile will also be able to evolve.
