EC Peiting underpins its ambitions to make it directly into the play-offs.

At the Höchstadt EC there were three points "that are very important," said Coach Saal.

Peiting/Höchstadt – Anton Saal often does not spare critical words even after victories.

This time, however, the EC Peiting coach was in a mild mood.

His team "did well today," he said after the 2-1 win at Höchstadt EC on Friday evening.

The will to take the victory from Middle Franconia was there.

Ultimately, the players "rewarded themselves".

Last but not least, Saal was satisfied with the defensive performance.

In the final third, when the “Alligators” put the pressure on in the face of a 1:2 deficit, defending was the order of the day.

"We did well, maybe with a bit of luck."

So there were three points, "which are of course important," says Saal.

Since the direct pursuers Tölz (2:3 against Rosenheim) and Passau (2:4 against Weiden) lost, the team consolidated its sixth place, which would mean direct entry into the play-offs at the end of the main round.

EC Peiting with fourth win in a row

Getting a perspective wasn't easy at first.

Not because there was so much chaos on the ice.

However, the relatively mild temperatures ensured that there was fog in the Höchstadt stadium.

Twice in the first third, the referees asked all players of both teams onto the ice to do laps and thus support the air circulation.

"We said to ourselves that we wouldn't let that bother us.

We have to keep our focus on the game and we did that well," said Saal.

In the early stages, none of the teams was able to gain an advantage over the long term.

The game only got going in the first half of the game in the final minutes.

Peiting received a penalty (14th), but then acted skillfully.

Felix Brassard forced a foul with a clever move on a break - and thus ensured a numerical tie.

When Peitinger were almost 90 seconds ahead, they showed a good power play with chances for Thomas Heger and Andreas Feuerecker.

Peitinger compensation just twelve seconds after the 0:1

As a result, the Peitinger had more good offensive actions by Brassard and David Miller.

Only shortly after a good chance for Höchstadt by Dominik Zbaranski (18th) did the hosts celebrate: After a pass through the ECP defense zone, defender Jakob Fardoe hit the crossbar with a remarkable flick to make it 1-0 (19th).

The ECP equalized just eleven seconds later: top scorer Brassard used a shot he had won on the rink and skillfully sunk the ball to make it 1-1 (19th).

Visibility was significantly better in the second third, and there was more activity on the ice.

Höchstadt was now more active.

EHC player Anton Seewald failed with a "pawn trick" by ECP keeper Florian Hechenrieder (22nd).

At the other end, Louis Postel hit the outside of the post, and immediately afterwards Marco Habermann tried – unsuccessfully – with a “pawn trick” (25').

A little later the disc was exposed in front of the Höchstadt goal, but Marco Niewollik was prevented from scoring (27th).

As a result, Peiting - who came with 16 field players - became overweight and was often in the Alligator zone.

Various degrees were the result, but they were either blocked and held or missed.

Postel in particular, who acted as a "jumper" in several rows, put himself in the limelight several times.

Höchstadt was by no means completely out of the game: The “Alligators” had a double chance through Jari Neugebauer and Zbaranski (38').

In the final minutes, Peiting put enormous pressure on again, but Thomas Heger and Feuerecker were unlucky in scoring.

Höchstadt started the final third with two good chances through Tim Zimmermann and Eetu-Ville Arkiomaa.

A penalty time against the “Alligators” (42nd) gave the people from Peitingen the opportunity to go on the offensive again.

The guests then used another power play: Habermann completed a pass from Miller with a backhand racquet to make it 2:1 (46th) – given the number of chances up to that point, the lead was deserved.

Good defensive performance in the closing stages

After the goal, Höchstadt suddenly put the pressure on, and there were a few dangerous moments in front of the Peitinger goal.

The ECP was even outnumbered (49th), but showed a good penalty kill.

Added to that was the necessary bit of luck when Neugebauer only hit the crossbar.

Höchstadt wanted compensation.

Peiting defended very skilfully and when things got dangerous, as with the chances of Neugebauer (54th) and Dmitrij Litesov (56th), Hechenrieder was there.

Another huge chance for Höchstadt 42 seconds before the end, but Litesov, standing in the slot, was disrupted with combined forces after a good pass from Arkiomaa.
