What will happen in the elections for the chairman of the football association? | Israel Hayom

The fight for the position is heating up ● The top teams support Shino Zoertz, who promises far-reaching changes ● Around Oren Hason they claim: "They want to turn Israeli football into only the big clubs" ● Liav Nachmani on the growing tensions

The fight for the position of chairman of the football association has never been hotter. The press conference called yesterday (Thursday) by Shino Zoertz revealed just how much.

The petitions filed by some supporters of Oren Hasson, the incumbent chairman, against Zoertz's eligibility for the position have made the fight personal, but at least for now, the estimate is that Hasson will be elected to a second term.

Ten of the 14 teams in the Premier League support Zoertz, including Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Beitar Jerusalem, Maccabi Netanya and Hapoel Jerusalem.

"There is no longer the section that the Hapoel are going with the Hapoel center - and Maccabi with the Maccabi center, that's what's amazing here," said people around Zoertz.

The four that support Hason are Hapoel BS, MS Ashdod, Bnei Sakhnin and apparently also Hapoel Haifa.

Both sides claimed that another group might switch sides, although the majority is clear.

Maccabi Fatah, Hapoel Fatah, Hapoel Umm El Fahm, Hapoel Acre, Hapoel Nof HaGalil, AS Ashdod and other groups, as well as Sara Haftel, a member of the women's committee in the association, support Zoertz, who has done fieldwork in recent months and also clarified Because he intends to reform women's football.

In general, Zoertz wants to make major reforms that he is unlikely to be able to implement in one term.

He harnessed the big teams through several programs: the first is changing the structures of the leagues for youth, boys and children, and bringing in budgets for the development of young players, including funds that are "painted" by the state and ready to be transferred but are "up in the air" at this point.

Beyond that, the main thing is expected to be a precedent-setting attempt to disconnect the sports centers from the decisions made by the football association.

In Hason's environment, the move is interpreted as "an attempt to turn Israeli football into only the big clubs", but Zoertz himself admitted: "In the previous term I resigned because they didn't let me work, this time it will be different", with a strong hint towards quite a few businessmen in the association.

I came to help a friend

Another plan that has gained momentum is changing the punishment regulations in the association, which were written decades ago.

"There is no room for collective punishment," Zwartz stated at the press conference yesterday, when under the surface the groups that support him have understandings regarding other punishments, which on the one hand would oblige the clubs to act against violent fans and on the other hand would not punish thousands of spectators with collective punishments.

The bottom line is the desire to put an end to empty stadiums or stands.

Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv have often contacted Son and asked to consider them.

"The groups invest millions, and then are punished with enormous financial damages," said Shahar, Jack Angalidis and the Nisanov brothers more than once.

Even Beitar Jerusalem, back when it was owned by Moshe Hogg, was one of the applicants. Nothing has changed since then, and the Premier League clubs that support Shino Zoaretz believe that this will change if he is elected. "In the 30 years that I have been the owner of Maccabi Haifa, we have made so many changes To move on.

On the other hand, since I was a child I don't see any change in the way people are chosen for the association.

Everything is the same," Shahar stated in an unusual statement, while standing next to Zoertz, at the press conference yesterday. "Shino is talking about a change that has not happened in football," added Shahar.

It is understood that within all these things there are also economic interests.

Currently, the teams are obliged to transfer ten percent of ticket revenue to the soccer association, and the Premier League clubs are in favor of changing this.

In teams like Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, millions of shekels are involved.

"The association needs to know how to bring money from other places, and not only at our expense," clarified the team owners.

In any case, there is time until Tuesday, and it is not impossible that additional petitions will be filed against Zoertz's confrontation with Hasson.

If this does not happen, an interesting political struggle is expected in the near future, but after that the next chairman will have to worry about the future of Israeli football.
