Premier League: Liverpool Reds find colors at Aston Villa

2022-12-26T20:13:32.187Z

Struggling in the league before the World Cup and eliminated in the League Cup by Manchester City, Liverpool won at Aston Villa.

A victory not to find the crisis of this beginning of the season.

At Aston Villa, Liverpool won 3-1 thanks to their executives and temporarily regained 6th place in the Premier League.

A rhythmic match worthy of Boxing Day, which almost slipped through the fingers of the Reds after halftime.

Liverpool started strong at Villa Park in Birmingham thanks to their attacking leader, Mohamed Salah (5th), and especially to the superb inspiration of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the start of the action.

After half an hour of play, it was vice-captain Virgil van Dijk who doubled the bet from a corner, with his foot (37th).

Liverpool jostled at the start of the second half

Aston Villa paid for their lack of realism at the break (0-2) and suffered from the superior technical and physical quality at Liverpool.

But the players of Unai Emery reversed the trend as soon as the recovery: Ollie Watkins was denied a goal (46th) and John McGinn missed the easiest of the head (48th).

Asphyxiated, the Reds cracked.

Watkins closed the lead to wake up Villa Park (59th, 1-2).

A goal on which the Villans failed to capitalize.

Liverpool gradually regained control and put the game to sleep, until the first professional goal by Stefan Bajetic (18) to kill all suspense (81st, 1-3).

In the standings, Liverpool goes back to 6th place, one point behind Manchester United who plays this Tuesday.

Aston Villa is stuck in the soft underbelly of the Premier League, in 12th place.
