Argentina international goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has had a special tattoo done on a body part with a history.
A picture of the World Cup trophy now adorns the inside of his left calf – with which he made a superb save against Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt when the score was 3-3 in extra time in the World Cup final against France (4-2 on penalties).
"May passion lead you to glory" is the caption under Martinez's latest tattoo, which the 30-year-old from Premier League club Aston Villa presented on Instagram on Monday.
Above that are the three stars for Argentina's three World Cup successes - 1978, 1986 and now 2022.
Penalty hero and provocateur
Martínez was named the tournament's best goalkeeper after the World Cup in Qatar.
In the final, he saved France's Kingsley Coman's penalty on penalties, and in the quarter-finals against the Netherlands, Martínez was the deciding man in the shoot-out.
Martínez' jubilation with the "Golden Glove" caused outrage when he held the trophy as a phallic symbol in the direction of the French fans.
