Olympic Games: India thinks of 2036

The Indian sports minister has indicated that the country is "seriously" considering applying to host the XXXVI Games.

has several times expressed its interest in hosting the Olympic Games, explains Anurag Thakur.

The minister said his government would consult with the Indian Olympic Association and prepare a battle plan ahead of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai next year.

“The IOC session is a prestigious event for India and whatever steps are taken to bid with the IOA, the government will support them,” he continued.

Potential rivals for the Games include Indonesia and South Korea, as well as Qatar, which hosted the FIFA World Cup this year.

Germany plans to launch a new Olympic bid despite strong domestic opposition.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it was in preliminary discussions with 10 cities but did not reveal a timetable for when it plans to award the 2036 edition.
