Totally in his profession: Toni Schweissgut (r.) was always very close to the wrestlers as an FT employee.

The FT congratulates Toni Schweißgut: He reported on the wrestling in the district for 35 years.

He recently had to end his "career" due to illness.

Hallbergmoos – A place at the press table was always reserved for them: Toni Schweißgut and his daughter Lisa were regular guests in the sports halls for years when the wrestlers had a competition day or a championship.

Toni as reporter for the Freisinger Tagblatt - and Lisa, because her father instilled her enthusiasm for this sport in the cradle.

In the past season, on the other hand, both were "only" at the start as spectators.

Toni Schweissgut had to end his career as a reporter due to illness.

The Goldacher worked for the daily newspaper for 35 years.

Welding has kept its own archive since 1972 - 20 folders full of articles about district wrestling

Franz Achter, Gustav Dubelowski, Sepp Fritsch, Willi Funk, Alfons and Lorenz Hecher, Jahanshah and Mahmoud Karimi, Alfons Keller, Franz Kessler, Christina Lechner, Thomas Mittermüller, Peter Neumair, Günther Niedermair, Georg Schatz, Konrad Schluttenhofer, Hans Soller: weld metal has accompanied many greats of county wrestling on their sporting paths.

And he rekindled their successes as part of an FT series when everything lay fallow due to Corona in 2020 and there were no competitions, championships and tournaments to write about.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

During this time when there were few sporting events, he benefited from three things that are indispensable in journalism: contacts, a good nose for good stories and an impressive reference book.

Toni Schweissgut has been collecting newspaper clippings since 1972 – back then digitization was still a foreign word.

He now has 20 folders full of articles about district wrestling.

Welding's wish for his 71st birthday: "Health.

And many more happy years with your loved ones”

There are, of course, numerous success stories.

The absolute highlights at SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos were promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in 1992 and the German runners-up position in 2005. In general, Toni Schweissgut is very connected to SV Siegfried: He used to be a member of the board of directors for eight years, including as secretary and press spokesman as well as managing director.

Nevertheless, he was always a critical reporter: "If you wrestled badly, then that belongs in the newspaper," he once said.

Today, Toni Schweissgut looks back on his time as a FT sports reporter with pride, but also with a bit of nostalgia.

“Writing has always given me great pleasure.

Not least because the contact and cooperation with the wrestling clubs in Hallbergmoos, Freising and Au were very good," he emphasizes.

“Ultimately, after my illness, the right time had come for me to stop.

Even if it's a shame."

Weekends now belong to the family during wrestling season.

Together with his wife Sylvia and his children Tobias and Lisa, there is something to celebrate this Wednesday - namely Toni's 71st birthday.

"Although," says the jubilee, "now we're going to celebrate the 70th.

Unfortunately, I was in the hospital a year ago.” What does he wish for?

"Health.

And that I can still spend many happy years with my loved ones.”
