The Geretsrieder River Rats celebrated a close but deserved 4:3 victory on Wednesday evening in Waldkraiburg.
Waldkraiburg/Geretsried – The Geretsrieder ice hockey team is not giving up in the fight for eighth place: Yesterday, Wednesday evening, the River Rats won 4:3 (0:1, 2:1, 2:1) at EHC Waldkraiburg and are therefore in ninth place in the table to qualify for the Bayernliga championship round.
"It was a close, but deserved win because the team never gave up," said Hans Tauber jun.
fixed.
However, it shouldn't have been that close, said the coach: "We missed too many chances."
In front of 310 spectators, the hosts, who have improved in recent weeks, started strongly, while the ESC, which started without the sick Martin Köhler, Bernhard Jorde and Benedikt May, acted too cautiously.
"We were a bit tense after the last two defeats," said Tauber.
So Waldkraiburg took the lead after 13 minutes through Michal Popelka on the power play.
The River Rats started the second period energetically and made it 1-1 (28th) through Michael Harrer.
"In the second third we were clearly the better team," emphasized Tauber.
Four minutes later, Marek Haloda scored the 2-1 lead, but just before the second break long-time DEL2 striker Christian Neuert equalized.
Just 46 seconds after the restart, Daniel Merl gave Geretsrieder a 3-2 lead.
Leon Judt managed to equalize for the EHC (51st), who then put a lot of pressure on.
"We had lost our strength because of our penalties," admitted the Geretsried coach.
But his protégés didn't give up and Florian Strobl scored the 4:3 winner six minutes before the end for the River Rats, who had to survive an anxious final phase outnumbered.
