Gabriel Clemens made history at the Darts World Cup in London and was the first German in World Cup history to reach the quarter-finals.

The "German Giant" won the second World Cup round of 16 of his career again accompanied by hundreds of German fans in "Ally Pally" against the Scotsman Alan Soutar 4:1.

World number one and ex-world champion Gerwyn Price from Wales is waiting in the round of the last eight on January 1st.

In his first round of sixteen two years ago, Clemens had failed the nerves.

In a thriller against the Pole Krzysztof Ratajski, he missed seven match darts and missed the round of eight - on Friday he stayed cool.

The opponent was on duty as a fireman at Christmas

Clemens got into an excellent match against fireman Soutar.

The 39-year-old again appeared very calm and focused and started his first shot with a 180, the maximum.

The world number 25.

continued seamlessly from the start, hit three of his four attempts on doubles and got the first set to zero.

Soutar, who worked in his main job as a shift worker at the fire station over Christmas, beat the in-form world number ninth Danny Noppert from the Netherlands 4:2 on his way to the round of 16 after being 2-0 down.

Three missed match darts

The 44-year-old set the first sign with a break to make it 1-1 in the second set.

After that, Clemens failed to exploit Soutar's mistakes on the doubles.

He also scored 20 points less per shot than in the first round.

But Clemens quickly found his way back into the game, secured the third and fourth sets, mainly due to the better double quota, and took the lead 3:1.

And Clemens didn't have enough, checked 148 points to make it 2-0 in the legs in the fifth set.

After three missed match darts, he converted the decisive fourth.

The two other German starters, Martin Schindler and Florian Hempel, had already been eliminated.

Schindler lost his third round match against Vice World Champion Michael Smith 3:4 after leading 3:1.

Hempel had just missed a sensation in the second round in the 2:3 against the fifth in the world rankings Luke Humphries.
