Yann Sommer is apparently a candidate for FC Bayern after Manuel Neuer's injury.

Ex-DFB keeper Eike Immel advises Munich against the transfer.

Munich – Actually, Hasan Salihamidzic says he is “no friend of the winter transfer period”.

After the absence of Manuel Neuer, who broke his lower leg in a skiing accident, the sports director is no longer ruling out anything.

Now the Bavarians see an acute need for action and, in addition to a return of the loaned Alexander Nübel, have their sights on the Gladbacher Yann Sommer.

A former international goalkeeper recently got involved in the goalkeeping debate and advised Bayern Munich against hiring the Swiss.

Yan Summers

Born: December 17, 1988 in Morges (Switzerland)

Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach (since 2014)

Professional stations: FC Basel, FC Vaduz, Grasshoppers Club Zurich

Internationals: 80 (for Switzerland)

Yann Sommer: Gladbach keeper is still hesitating with the current contract offer

Sommer is one of the top performers in Mönchengladbach.

The 34-year-old, who once moved from FC Basel to the Lower Rhine, has brought Bayern to the brink of despair time and time again - for example in the 1-1 draw on the fourth matchday of this season.

His contract expires next summer.

An early farewell seems possible in view of the short remaining contract term, he has not yet accepted an offer to extend his working paper.

With the 34-year-old veteran Tobias Sippel and the 21-year-old homegrown Jan Olschowsky, the Gladbachers also have two capable goalkeepers in their own ranks who have already been used this season.

Yann Sommer to FC Bayern?

His height would be an exclusion criterion for Immel

A goalkeeper colleague is critical of the possible transfer of the 34-year-old Borussia keeper.

Former national goalkeeper Eike Immel recently spoke to

in detail about the personnel and made a harsh judgment when he stated: "I'm not a fan of his".

The 19-time national player, who guarded the box during his career for Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart and Manchester City, then justified his position.

According to the 62-year-old, the special position is about mobility and reaction and mental strength.

However, he lists a not insignificant point: body size.

Sommer is only 1.83 meters tall – not particularly tall for a goalkeeper.

For Immel this would be an exclusion criterion.

Eike Immel criticizes FCB candidate Yann Sommer: "I don't want to say anything negative, but..."

"When I was goalkeeping coach at Fenerbahçe, when I was looking for new goalkeepers, I wasn't even interested in candidates under 1.87 meters," he recalls of his time from 2003 to 2005 when he was employed as a goalkeeping coach in Istanbul under Christoph Daum.

Immel also thinks he knows the reason for the many parades of the Swiss.

"I don't want to say anything negative, but: Neuer doesn't have to throw himself down with every ball or make a huge save, which Sommer makes a world-class save from," says the native of Stadtallendorf and adds: "While one has easily intercepted the ball, the other is in praised heaven.”

Eike Immel obviously doesn't think much of Yann Sommer.

Eike Immel raves about injured Manuel Neuer: "Courage and technical skills"

Immel has only praise for Neuer, even if the

repeatedly no longer classified the captain of the national team in the "world class" category.

"He's an outstanding number one and has an enormous influence on the goalkeepers, especially from the youth," says the 534-time Bundesliga player.

Neuer's style of play requires "a certain eye to play so far out there," enthuses Immel.

“In addition, courage and technical skills.

But also luck.”

The fact that Immel is worried about the goalkeeper position at Bayern is somewhat surprising given his lack of connection to the Munich team.

It is therefore questionable whether the record champions can be influenced in any way by Immel's criticism of Sommer.
