The Russian Football Union has decided to set up a committee to study the issue of moving to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from the European Union.
During the meeting held by the Executive Committee of the Russian Federation today to discuss the option of possible Russia leaving the European Football Association and joining the Asian Confederation, it was decided to establish a working group that will have to determine the feasibility of this step before March 2023.
And the Vice-President of the Russian Football Association, Denis Solovyov, announced on December 23 that a decision regarding the issue of the Russian Football Association’s withdrawal from the European Union and moving to the AFC will be taken by December 31, 2022, against the backdrop of preventing Russian teams and teams from participating in European competitions. .
It is noteworthy that the International Federation (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) suspended, on February 28, the participation of Russian teams and clubs in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
The Russian national team was unable to participate in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and the European Nations League competitions, and it will also miss the qualifying round for the 2024 European Nations Cup.
