Clash of generations expected in 2023 on the tennis planet

Before the Australian Open (January 16 to 30), the first big meeting of the season, players have started a year 2023 which promises to be more uncertain than ever.


Rather frozen in recent years, the men's hierarchy has experienced major upheavals during a stunning 2022 season which has seen Serena Williams and Roger Federer in particular bow out three weeks apart.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, legends still alive, are determined to write a few more lines of history.

But Alcaraz and a new generation in a hurry do not hear it that way.

Despite the weight of the years, the Spaniard and the Serb could well (still) leave only crumbs to the competition in the Grand Slams and maintain their own legend.

By winning last November in Turin the 6th Masters of his career, Djokovic, 35 years old, and despite a 5th final rank, reminded that he was still the best player in the world, at the end of a season where his refusal to be vaccinated deprived him of two Grand Slam tournaments and four Masters 1000 and where the points at Wimbledon were not awarded to him.
