Mitchell's performance sets a franchise record for the Cavaliers, is tied for the eighth-most points in an NBA game and puts him in the company of only five other players who have scored 71 or more points in a game. : Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor and David Robinson.

With the Cavaliers trailing 130-127 after a pair of Coby White free throws with 7.4 seconds remaining, Ayo Dosunmu sent Mitchell to the free throw line.
Mitchell nailed the first then, after intentionally missing the second, followed it up with an offensive rebound that forced a 130-130 tie and sent the game into overtime.
Mitchell then scored 13 points in the deciding overtime period, including three of his seven 3-pointers on the night.
In addition to his 71 points, Donovan Mitchell flirted with a triple-double, distributing 11 assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
