The year of VfB Hallbergmoos can be divided into two phases: the strong second half of the season with successful relegation and the catastrophic fall season.

Hallbergmoos – It was a year between heaven and hell for VfB Hallbergmoos.

And yet the club has known for a long time how awesome Bayern League football is.

VfB was almost relegated at first, then saved itself with an incredible spring round in the relegation, mastered it in four games and at the turn of the year is back where it started in 2022 - with its back to the wall.

January

After the dismissal of promotion coach Gediminas Sugzda, interim coach Peter Beierkuhnlein got VfB back on track.

After nine points at the end of the 2021 autumn round, the past year started with the chance of at least achieving relegation.

Despite the upswing under Beierkuhnlein, VfB decided to make a fresh start during the winter break: in Matthias Strohmaier, the club management hired a young, ambitious coach who himself had played at a higher level – including at FC Bayern II and 1. FC Schweinfurt.

He formed the new coaching trio with Florian Brachtel, who had been promoted internally, and Alban Zinsou, who had previously worked in the youth division at Türkgücü Munich.

Nobody suspected that two of the three would be history again in December at the Söldnermoos.

February

After a rather changeable preparation despite four victories, the start of the spring round was a smash: With a dream free-kick from captain Andreas Kostorz, VfB won 1-0 in the last second against leaders Hankofen, who would later be promoted to the regional league as champions.

The former Hallbergmoos shooting gallery slowly seemed to understand how to close the back.

March

VfB is competitive, but the yield is not enough.

There were three draws (0-0 in Pullach, 1-1 against 1860 II, 0-0 in Kottern) and two unfortunate 2-1 defeats in Garching and Landsberg.

Five times they were at eye level, conceded only five goals, and yet the yield was not enough to break away from the two direct relegation places.

April

The Hallbergmooser Kicker have blossomed into one of the top five teams in the second half of the season and have set huge exclamation marks.

A win was possible with a 0-0 draw in Kirchanschöring, and then there were away wins at Schwaben Augsburg (2-1) and FC Ingolstadt II (2-1).

The Strohmaier squad has established itself in the relegation ranks and was even close to staying up in the league.

The final sprint was tough: After two wins and a run of six games without defeat, you still had the chance of staying up in the league on the last day of the game.

However, they should have defeated second-placed Donaustauf and at the same time hoped for a defeat by Türkspor Augsburg.

In the end it was theory, even if the Strohmaier-Elf almost ruined the promotion relegation for the runner-up from the Upper Palatinate at 1:2.

So VfB finished the round of points in relegation rank 15.

After nine points in the preliminary round, they were number four in the second half of the season with 30 points in the second half.

Thus, VfB went into the play-offs against relegation with self-confidence and as favorites.

May June

Relegation is the time of great drama, when one goal can change the world and every defeat can spell doom.

Hallbergmoos had drawn a tricky lot with SC Fortuna Regensburg, but drew 2-2 away and won 3-0 at the fortress at the airport.

With this success, VfB may have felt too safe.

On the artificial turf pitch in Neudrossenfeld in Upper Franconia, he paid the price for arrogance.

With the worst performance of the half-year, you could have lost the first leg, but in the end it was 4:4.

In the second leg, football was played in a controlled manner again, and a header from Andreas Giglberger secured Bayernliga relegation (1-0).

At the end of his career in higher-class football, Dennis Hammerl still had a special mission with his team:

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

July

As a result, the second Bayernliga year began with a shorter preparation, a heavily changed squad and the hope of being able to establish itself in the Bayernliga.

The start left a lot to be desired with one win and three defeats, but the performance gave confidence.

Top favorite Landsberg led 1-0 for a long time and only lost through two late goals (1-2).

The important match against relegation candidate Türkspor Augsburg was clearly won (3:1).

August

The euphoria is gone.

Hallbergmoos was deep in the table basement early on - one point ahead of bottom Rosenheim on the only direct relegation zone.

Sporty one was at best partially competitive.

In addition, there was a footballing oath of disclosure with the 0: 3 at basement neighbor Dachau 65.

Internally, there was – to put it mildly – a need for discussion.

Coach Strohmaier: "It's not five to twelve.

It is twelve o clock."

September

The home win in the derby against the neighbors from Ismaning (2:1) was a day of celebration.

In the remaining three matches there were three 1:4 defeats in which VfB had no chance at all.

Coach Matthias Strohmaier was extremely frustrated: "We have to be happy to have an even worse team behind us in Rosenheim."

October

The 0-0 against Rosenheim was pathetic.

There were also three smooth bankruptcies.

VfB was further than ever from being suitable for the Bavarian league.

This time the Hallbergmoosers even finished the autumn round with just eight points.

"Of course, the first half of the season was a complete disaster, that's a straight six," said sporting director Anselm Küchle.

After the successful relegation, they thought they were two steps further in their own development.

Küchle: "Anything other than relegation is no longer realistic."

Sobering: VfB were not even able to defeat bottom-placed Rosenheim in this autumn round (0-0).

November

After the suspension of Osaro Aiteniora, Monty Mendama, Berin Brzovic and Marcel Sieghart, it was clear that the tree was on fire.

Coach Matthias Strohmaier made it clear that the team had made the wrong decisions, but confronted Küchle: "It's not entirely his fault that the newcomers had to reach for the toilet." The team showed signs of life with two draws, but then with to completely fail the 1: 4 at Türkspor Augsburg in the duel third from last against penultimate.

This season, the renewed relegation is the highest of feelings.

December

There was a big bang during the winter break: the club and coach parted ways after the topic had been kept small during the round.

Straw Maier, who was very frustrated in the meantime, did not throw down and the club breathed away the lack of a chance.

This means that the three coaches from last January all had new tasks.

Zinsou ended up back at Türkgücü Munich.

Strohmaier would first like to clear his head and then take the next steps towards professional football.

Brachtel was the internal climber in January, who is now climbing even further.

In the spring round as the new head coach, he is supposed to achieve the second miracle of relegation.
