France team: Deschamps' extension not expected this weekend

2023-01-04T17:41:07.028Z

Didier Deschamps and Noël Le Graët have not yet reached an agreement likely to allow the manager to formalize the extension.

We will still have to wait to officially know the name of the next coach of the Blues.

Didier Deschamps remains the big favorite for his own succession.

But nothing is, however, signed between the recent vice-world champion and Noël Le Graët, the boss of the French Football Federation.

If the trend is still towards extension, the discussions around the duration of the contract and the management of organizational problems are, for the time being, still not resolved.

According to our information, Didier Deschamps would like to extend for 3 and a half years, i.e. until the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

For his part, Le Graët offers him an 18-month contract, i.e. until the Euro organized in Germany.

A first meeting between the two men took place on Thursday, December 29, with very positive results and a common desire to continue the adventure.

" I love it.

I believe he loves me.

We should be able to manage.

But no bar.

It's not done, "the president of the French Football Federation even briefly told us.

In an ideal calendar, the leader would however have liked to announce this extension on January 7 during the federal assembly of the authority.

This should not be the case, except acceleration, considered improbable at this stage, of the negotiations between the two men.

Asked this Wednesday about the question, Noël Le Graët preferred to kick in touch, inviting us to call him back in "a few days".

The trend is still optimistic about an extension of "DD" at the head of the Blues, but there is no urgency, recalls a source familiar with the matter.

The start of the qualifiers for Euro 2024 does not take place until March 25 with the reception of the Netherlands at the Stade de France.
