German debacle at the Four Hills Tournament: Karl Geiger did not survive the qualification in Innsbruck and missed the Bergisel competition.
Innsbruck - Huge disappointment for the German star ski jumper Karl Geiger!
The man from the Allgäu couldn't cope with the conditions in Innsbruck at all and was eliminated in the qualification after a very weak jump of only 108 meters.
So he is doomed to watch the Bergisel competition on Wednesday.
After qualifying at Eurosport, Geiger reacted with dismay: "It's really hard.
I would not have expected this.
I don't have any answers yet.
My form curve was actually pointing upwards.” To follow up on ARD: “That was a botch.
I can't really put it into words yet, it was intense.
I didn't catch the jump at all.”

Ski jumping: Karl Geiger does not qualify for the third jump of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck
The German hope at the Four Hills Tournament only took 51st place.
As in the qualification in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the best German on Tuesday was Philipp Raimund (Oberstdorf), who came eleventh with a jump of 121.5 m.
Of the seven athletes from the German Ski Association (DSV) who started, all except Geiger qualified for the competition on Wednesday (1.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport).
Andreas Wellinger (Ruhpolding/15th), the improved Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf/16th) and Stephan Leyhe (Willingen/17th) all made it into the top 20.

In the overall classification, the DSV-Adler are already far behind Granerud after two jumps.
In sixth place, Wellinger is already 32 meters behind and therefore has little chance of the first overall German victory since Sven Hannawald in 2002. Geiger, currently fifth overall, will fall far behind.
