For the first time in Israel, the municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa will set up a project to break the world athletics record, in the women's 10 km division as part of the Tel Aviv Playtica Marathon. 30 senior runners from Israel and the world will participate in the attempt to break the 10 km record for women in which the Israeli senior ran, Luna Chemtai Saltpeter, who will lead the effort.

Chemtai Salpeter, bronze medalist at the 2022 World Marathon Championships in Eugene and the holder of the Israeli marathon record from 2020, which stands at 02:17:45 hours, and will try to break the record for running 10 km on a road for women, which currently stands at 30 :01 minutes and set in Germany by Agnes Gebt.

Mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Ron Huldai: "The marathon is an ideal event for breaking records - whether it's running time, distance or any other significant achievement. I invite everyone who wants to break a record to come run and take part in the event. And if you are one of those who don't like to sweat, you will come to encourage the runners on their way to the achievement they set for themselves."

Luna Chamtai Salpeter: "Running 10 km in the Pleitika Tel Aviv Marathon is a special event for me.

This is an amazing challenge to break the record and I hope to present the best possible run to make many happy, including everyone who chooses to come and cheer on the marathon.

My goal is to beat my personal best and finish the run in under 30:05.

For me it is a great honor to make my country proud in every race I compete in.

I invite the runners to cheer me on and run by my side and be part of this challenge."

Saltpeter, who ran among other things as part of the NN Running Team, which also included the Olympic marathon champion, the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoga, and other world-renowned runners, managed to finish the distance in 2019 in 30:05 minutes, a time faster than the world record. But this result was not determined as an official result because the organizers of the competition in Tiburg, Holland did not follow all the required regulations.

A team from the World Athletics Association will arrive at the upcoming marathon to ensure compliance with all required regulations.

Salpeter and senior professional runners from Israel and the world, will start at the giant starting gate of the marathon on Sderot Rokah.

The running route will go through Rokeh to Dizengoff, from Dizengoff to Ben Gurion Sderot, to Ibn Gvirol and back to the finish gate on Rokeh Sed.

This is a flat and fast track.

Dozens of cheering and viewing positions will be set up along the route.

Residents of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and its guests are invited to watch the attempt to break the world record and to cheer Luna and the senior races on their way to breaking the record.

The challenge of breaking the world record places the marathon in line with the leading international sports events and strengthens its position as a competitive focus for runners from Israel and the world.

Registration for the various marathon stages, including the 10 km stage, is open and will end on February 18. You can register at discounted prices until January 21.
