Former ski racer Rosi Mittermaier died on January 4th, 2023 at the age of 72.

The grief over the death of ski legend Rosi Mittermaier is great.
Many companions share their memories of the Upper Bavarian.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Germany's former world-class ski racer Rosi Mittermaier died in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the age of 72.
The family of the two-time Olympic champion confirmed this to SID on Thursday.
Mittermaier fell asleep peacefully with the family on Wednesday after a serious illness.
Mittermaier leaves her husband Christian Neureuther (73), also a former ski racer, and their children Ameli (41) and Felix Neureuther (38).
Her son Felix was also a ski racer and won several world championship medals.
On the day of her death, he even commented on the night slalom in Garmisch as an expert on ARD.

The death of the German ski legend shocked many fans across the country, and companions of the native of Upper Bavaria were also worried about their Rosi.
DSV President Dr.
Franz Steinle said in a statement: "With Rosi Mittermaier, the ski family loses an extraordinary personality who rightly enjoyed great popularity beyond the sport." Rosi Mittermaier was always friendly, modest and helpful.
“She was a soul of man.
Sport taught her values like friendship and fairness, and she upheld those values throughout her life.
We mourn the loss of a great role model and our sympathy and thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Markus Wasmeier, double Olympic champion from 1994 and family friend, told SID: “We have lost a fantastic person.
Rosi had a heart as big as a bus, she was always there for everyone - that was unique.
You won't find someone like that again, she leaves a huge gap."
The Bavarian state parliament also recognized the deceased skiing icon Rosi Mittermaier as an exceptional personality.
“Rosi Mittermaier was an exceptional ski racer.
Even after her skiing career, she was an exceptional personality and popular figure - always active, always committed, both sportingly and socially," said Ilse Aigner (CSU), President of the State Parliament, on Thursday.
