A call that quickly prompted Jérôme Coumet, mayor of the 13th arrondissement, Aïmane Bassiouni, deputy mayor of the 13th arrondissement in charge of sports and youth and Frédéric Pereira, president of Paris 13 Atletico (National).
The town hall and the club of the 13th arrondissement, which has the most licensees in France (1600), indeed wish to rename their Boutroux stadium into the Pelé stadium in the coming months.
“We are betting on doing it first and it really makes sense to do it for this particular stadium located in a working-class area,” explains Aïmane Bassiouni.
“The Pelé stadium would thus quite naturally be the temple of popular football!
