Matthias and Michael Holderried compete with SV Waldkirch in the final Bundesliga competition.

The venue is convenient for fans from the region.

Burggen – A Bundesliga shooting in the Lechrainhalle in Scheuring is not a “home competition” in the traditional sense for Matthias Holderried, as the Tannenberger is playing for SV Waldkirch (Günzburg district).

And yet the appearances there, at SG Edelweiß, are something special for him and his brother Michael, because the venue is close to home and can be reached quite quickly for fans from the Schongau area.

Matthias and Michael Hoderried compete in Scheuring

On Saturday and Sunday, January 7th and 8th, Matthias and Michael Holderried are challenged with SV Waldkirch in Scheuring.

On the last competition weekend of the 1st Bundesliga South, the brothers and their air pistol team will meet the hosts SG Edelweiß (Saturday, 6 p.m.) and KKS Hambrücken (Sunday, 10 a.m.).

There is still a lot at stake for the people of Waldkirch.

In the table of the south relay it is very tight.

The Waldkircher - currently second with 14:4 points - could in the worst case, which is also very unlikely, fall out of the top four and thus miss the final for the Bundesliga title (February 3rd to 5th in Neu-Ulm).

That would be particularly annoying for the club this year, because this time it is co-organizer of the big final weekend in the "Ratiopharm Arena" with the best air pistol and air rifle teams from the southern and northern squadrons.

Battle for a place in the Bundesliga final

In addition to missing the final, the Waldkirchers want to avoid slipping down to fourth place (which is still possible).

Because that would mean meeting the dominant team from the north, SV Kriftel (18:0), in the first knockout round in Neu-Ulm.

"We should better avoid that," says Matthias Holderried.

The target for the weekend in Scheuring is ultimately clear: "The goal is two victories," emphasizes Matthias Holderried.

However, "we certainly don't get them for free".

At SG Scheuring (4:14) things aren't going particularly well this season, but the team "always has a joker that it can unpack," says Matthias Holderried.

He also reminds of the past season - at that time Scheuring won the direct duel with 4:1.

According to Holderried, the team from Hambrücken (12:6), a direct competitor for a top place, is "a bit unpredictable".

The team from near Karlsruhe includes several young shooters from the German national squad (Eduard Baumeister, Robin Walter, Celina Becker).

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

However, if the Waldkircher bring their performance, then nothing should stand in the way of a successful league conclusion.

The Norwegian Ole-Harald Aas will take the foreigner's position at the weekend.

Matthias Holderried will shoot in third position.

The trainers will decide at short notice whether Michael Holderried will get his third appearance of the season.

The season is going well for Matthias Holderried

For Matthias Holderried, the team round is “actually going very well” so far.

He completed every competition, after nine missions he has an average of 380.89 points.

Two weaker results (377, 374) even ruined his balance sheet.

The 27-year-old sports soldier won five of nine duels.

Once he lost by a hair's breadth in a jump-off.

Matthias Holderried has been back in full training since Tuesday, which he mainly does on the shooting range in Hochbrück.

He reels off two to three units – each lasting around two and a half hours.

Around Christmas, the squad shooter took a break.

This was by no means detrimental to his performance – on the contrary.

The break "did me good".
