The former Italian footballer, Gianluca Vialli, passed away today at the age of 58. Vialli faced cancer for the second time and succumbed to the disease.

About two and a half weeks ago, the health condition of the legendary former striker deteriorated and he was admitted to the hospital in London, where he lived.

He passed away less than a month after the death of the former footballer Sinisha Mihailovic, who himself was dealing with cancer.

The 58-year-old Viali was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017.

Even then he was intensively treated in London and after a few months he beat the disease.

In December 2021, the Italian revealed that he was re-diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has since returned to fight for his life, while still serving as part of the team in the Italian national team.

In the last two weeks, as mentioned, his condition has worsened.

His family members were called from Italy to London and in the match between Juventus and Cremonza, Juve fans waved a sign with wishes for recovery (Vialli was born in Cremona and started his career in Cremonza).

Everyone understood that the end was near and today he passed away after a heroic fight against the disease.

Vialli played for the great Sampdoria of the late 80s and early 90s, before moving to Juventus and later to Chelsea.

He won two championships and four cups in Italy, with Juventus he lifted the Champions League Cup and the UEFA Cup, and with Chelsea he celebrated victories in the Cup and the League Cup in England and the European Cup Holders Cup. In addition, he made 59 appearances for the Italian national team in which he scored 16 goals.

His short coaching career began in February 1998 and ended in June 2002. It included about two and a half years at Chelsea (part of them as a coach-player) and a year on the lines of Watford. In 2019, his close friend, Roberto Mancini, arranged for his appointment to a sort of administrative position in the Italian national team and he was with the team that won the Euro 2020 (in 2021) and served as a great inspiration for the players.
