At New Year's Eve runs in the region, there were top places for athletes from the district.

The Rath siblings shone in Munich, while Nick Jäger was up front in Aschau.

District – Between Christmas and the first weekend of the New Year, track and field athletes run a race format that is known as the “New Year's Run”.

The origins go back to the 1920s - in Sao Paulo a running event was established on the last day of the year.

A regional competition turned into an international top event with starts by Emil Zatopek, Rosa Mota, Lasse Viren and Frank Shorter.

There are now New Year's runs all over the world.

We have an overview of races in the region in which women and men from the district took part.

A good 2000 starters at the New Year's Eve run in the Olympic Park in Munich

A good 2000 athletes started at the MRRC Munich New Year's Eve run in the Olympic Park, but significantly fewer than three years ago (almost 2900).

However, the level at the top was once again high.

The siblings Julia Rath (18) and Maximilian Rath (13) from Penzberg caused a sensation on the 5-kilometer route.

Julia Rath was the first woman to cross the finish line after 17:37 minutes.

The national squad athlete, starting for LAC Quelle Fürth, had a 41-second lead over second-placed Rosalie Hausdorf (LG Stadtwerke München), who also belongs to the U20 class.

Maximilian Rath (16:54) shone as seventh overall among 295 men and winner of the U14 class.

The Penzberger completed his first race in the jersey of his new club, LG Stadtwerke München.

Triathlete Isabel Altendorfer also offered a very remarkable performance over the 5 kilometers: The U20 athlete from Bernried, competing for Post SV Weilheim, finished fourth overall with 19:10 minutes.

However, she was denied a place on the podium, as the runners before her all belonged to the U20.

In the end, Joris Ressing from TSV Penzberg was among the top three in his age group: The time of 19:53 minutes gave him third place in the U18 boys.

Simone Fischer also took bronze in the W30 category (29 to 39 years old): The woman from Polling ran the five kilometers in 23:30 minutes.

Her father, Wolfgang Roth from Peißenberg, was even able to celebrate a class victory.

The 70-year-old crossed the finish line on the Werner-von-Linde-Halle sports field in 24:46 minutes.

In the M70 class he was the best.

In the 10-kilometer race, Paul Duckeck from Penzberg (TSV Benediktbeuern-Bichl) impressed with a time of 39:07 minutes.

In the main class, which also includes the day's winner, the American Aaron Gruen (31:28), Duckeck finished 17th.

Dießen's Stephan Wasl (42:53/135th place overall) as well as Habach's Felix Habersetzer (44:20/167th) and Andreas Hoiß (45:31/198th) were also very fast.

In the women's race, U23 athlete Emma Heckel (LG Telis Finanz Regensburg) achieved a superior victory as a favorite over the long distance: With 35:22 minutes, Heckel, who studies in the USA, was more than three minutes ahead of the second-placed in the overall ranking.

Mareike Ressing (52) won the W50 class even more clearly: The runner from TSV Penzberg impressed with a time of 41:02 minutes and distanced her nearest competitor by five and a half minutes.

In the overall standings, Ressing, who had won gold over 1500 meters at the Senioren-DM 2022, took eleventh place among 479 finishers.

Tom Jäger came third overall at the New Year's Eve run in Kempten

Ludwig Höfler (75) had not really prepared for the "Georg Hieble New Year's Eve Run" in a targeted manner, because the man from Burgener has long since swapped his running shoes for cross-country skis for seasonal reasons.

Among other things, he has planned to start at the Nordic Ski Masters World Championships in Seefeld.

Even so, Höfler was enough to win his class in Kempten: "Things are still going well," he stated with satisfaction.

The man from Burgener completed the 5 kilometers (including a climb of more than 30 meters in altitude) in 31:28 minutes – 31 seconds ahead of the second.

However, Höfler is not concerned with the mere result.

"I'm glad I'm healthy."

The fastest athlete from the district over the five kilometers was Tom Jäger (25) from TSV Penzberg: With 17:40 minutes he was third overall among 372 men.

Simon Fetschele from the “Full Load Tri-Team Schongau” (19:10 minutes/11th place) was also on the move.

Club colleague Alexander Tresselt (24:00) won the U14 class.

Heidi Höfler landed in the front field of the women: The Rottenbucher completed the circuit starting from the Iller Stadium in 25:19 minutes, took second place in the W45 class and 22nd place among 303 women in the overall ranking.

Three runners from the region were close together over the ten kilometers in the M35 class: Martin Bartels from Penzberg (44:17/21st place) was the fastest in the trio, only a few seconds separated Benedikt Augst (45:46/ 23.) from TSV Peiting and Marcus Strauss (45:51/24.) from SC Peiting.

Nick Jäger is second in Aschau

The "Aschauer Vorsilvesterlauf" has been taking place every year since 2009 in the glow of street lamps.

Only athletes who completed the 5 kilometers in under 24 minutes were allowed to take part in the elite run (start at 7:45 p.m.).

It was run on a circuit in the center of town.

In the field of top runners, Nick Jäger from Penzberg together with Hans-Peter Innerhofer (LC Oberpinzgau) clearly set the pace.

In the end, Innerhofer (14:40) won ahead of Jäger (14:47).

Third place went to ultramarathon runner Florian Neuschwander (15:21) from PTSV Rosenheim.

Behind them were three more runners under 16 minutes.

Tom Jäger, Nick's older brother, finished tenth overall;

he crossed the finish line in 16:23 minutes.

Just two days later, Tom Jäger finished third overall over 5 kilometers in Kempten (17:40).

The women's elite race in Aschau was won by Theresa Ortenreiter (17:42) from LG Stadtwerke München.

Athletes from TSV Penzberg have regularly competed in Aschau in recent years.

Nick Jäger shone once as third (2016) and once as fourth (2018), Lucas Herbeck ran twice in the top ten.

"Schönegger Käse Alm" trio is happy in Gersthofen

"A nice end of the year", was Peter Vogt's conclusion after the appearance at the "55.

International New Year's Eve Run" in Gersthofen, the oldest such event in Bavaria.

With his comrades from the “Schönegger Käse Alm” running team, Stefan Fichtl (Hohenfurch) and Benedikt Mergler (Altenstadt), the man from Rottenbuch took third place out of 64 teams in the team ranking of the main run over 9.7 kilometers.

Fichtl (34:05/11th place) and Vogt (34:08/12th) finished almost the same time.

Mergler (34:45/15th) was only slightly slower.

"All three of us are very happy with our times," reported Vogt.

The trio had formed a carpool with three other athlete friends.

Simon Onnich (born 2005) from TSV Altenau was part of the squad: with 34:31 minutes (14th place overall) he was by far the fastest youngster among 787 participants (561 men/226 women).

In addition, there were Obersöcheringer Fabian Zwerger (35:55/26.) from TSV Penzberg and Thomas Oswald (43:01/142.) from Hohenfurch.

The Schilcher couple from Schönberg also had a remarkable performance: Heinz Schilcher (39:22) took ninth place in the M50 class, Renate Schilcher (51:21) finished tenth in the W40 women.
