Rugby World Cup 2023: Sébastien Chabal suspected of having been privileged in ticket sales

2023-01-07T08:48:03.047Z

According to Le Parisien, searches carried out at the headquarters of the organizing committee would attest that tickets were sold outside the rules, in particular to the former international.

Definitely, nothing will be spared concerning the organization of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

Last November, an investigation was thus opened by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) targeting the organizing committee - which was then head of Claude Atcher before his dismissal in October - for favouritism, influence peddling and corruption in following a joint report from the General Inspectorate of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Education.

Already, at the time, a part of the case evoked irregularities at the level of the ticket office.

Which would be confirmed...

According to

Le Parisien

, a search at the headquarters of the organizing committee of the World Cup would prove that several hundred tickets were sold out of order.

Sébastien Chabal and Henri Mioch would be the beneficiaries of a share.

Sébastien Chabal, former star of the XV of France, would have acquired several hundred places.

The second, Henri Mioch, would have bought nearly 600 tickets for a sum of around 100,000 euros.

But this one happens to be a long-time friend of Claude Atcher.

Former quadruple champion of France with Béziers at the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the following decade, this 68-year-old man was employed by the Federation from February 2017 to December 2020 on a half-time basis, and he owns, with his son , an event company reselling packages of

A place purchased for less than 300 euros returned to 1500 euros in package

According to a source familiar with the matter quoted by

Le Parisien

, "

given the volume, there is no doubt that this is ticket trafficking

", knowing that a seat purchased at a preferential in this context – cheaper than its value of 300 euros – could be resold in a package estimated at 1500 euros.

Enough to achieve a very nice added value for the company of Henri Mioch and his offspring.

What also throw a shadow on the success of this ticket office, which had communicated on 2.6 million tickets sold a few months ago.

Obviously, in terms of volume, those 700 tickets or maybe a little more are a drop in the bucket.

But in terms of image, once again, this 2023 World Cup should suffer greatly…
