Hayley and Hannah Cabinder are part of a trend of attractive female athletes making millions thanks to social media, but as far as they're concerned, you have no idea who they really are

Tiktuknu: today's summary clip in sports, 8.1 (Sport1)

Haley and Hannah Cabinder are two college basketball players who play for the Miami Hurricanes, and also American twins who have become a hit on social media.

As you know, the laws in the US have changed and now allow college athletes to earn money from their media rights, and so in the NIL ranking (name, image, likeness) that examines popularity on social networks, the twins are at the top - and not only because of their performance, but maybe also thanks to the appearance of the beautiful sisters. 2022 is the first full year NCAA student-athletes have been able to monetize their personal brand, and while the vast majority of college athletes don't earn anything close to a real salary, some in women's sports are raking in huge sums.

In "Sports Illustrated" they ranked the top earners among women in the NCAA.

First is Olivia Dunn, a gymnast from LSU University, with 6.5 million followers on Tik Tok, 2.5 million on Instagram and endless sponsorship deals with fashion brands, cosmetics, and according to estimates, earned about 2.6 million dollars last year after becoming famous and a symbol in American sports.

In second place is Sonissa Lee of Auburn College, the successor to Simone Bales, the Tokyo 2020 all-around gold medalist, who ironically is behind Dunn, who has not won any prestigious official titles.

In third place is Paige Beukers, a player from the University of Connecticut, who, despite being injured and tearing her ligament, enjoys a million loyal followers on Instagram.

It should be noted that, unlike many of the successful athletes, she does not often upload photos of herself in revealing clothing, but mainly from the basketball court and in light entertainment.

In fourth place are the Cabinder sisters, followed on the list by Poljay Johnson of LSU and Jaida Williams of Arizona.

The Cavinder sisters are estimated to have earned $1.7 million last year, but their agent assures that this is just the beginning.

According to them, they are in sunny Miami only because of their careers, while in reality they would be happy to stay in their small town in Michigan, with 1,735 inhabitants, go fishing in the lake, eat cornflakes in the morning and listen to country music and Taylor Swift.

What bothers them are the "haters", who are sure that they are not really interested in basketball but only "Instagram models".

This upsets Haley.

very annoying

"Only last year did this whole thing with social networks start," she says, "I've been playing basketball since I was 6 years old."

They moved from Fresno College to Miami in April of last year, and many have estimated that it is because they know that in Miami the market share is much higher, and the considerations are commercial.

According to the assistant coach of the Hurricanes, "Some people see them as Tik Tok stars, but they are fighters, fighters, perhaps the most competitive I've ever seen in my life, killers on the court. They are also good girls, who work hard. Take care of each other. Think about the team. People are not really You know who they are... these two are going to give a lot of people a headache. They're going to hit you in the face, and a lot of people are going to have to eat the hat, I can't wait anymore."

Since they moved to Miami Haley is averaging 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, while her sister is averaging 3.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

They don't get carried away.

"Why don't we do both? Why don't we try to both play and try to profit for ourselves from the success?", says Hayley, "It would be very stupid of us not to take care of ourselves for the future."

At the same time, she clarifies: "Since I've been part of social networks, I've been able to understand how much I don't like social networks."
