Tölzer Löwen 3: 4 against leader Weiden, especially defensively improved a lot.
Bad Tölz - A kind of liberation, albeit without points in hand: After four defeats in a row, the Tölzer Löwen played happily against leaders Weiden, were twice in the lead and made the fast-paced game on Sunday evening even thanks to a stable defense.
However, the ripped off Blue Devils scored the decisive goal to make it 4:3.
In an exciting final phase with two minutes without their own goalkeeper, the Tölz team were no longer able to avert the fifth defeat in a row.
"Nevertheless, a top performance in terms of fighting, we delivered the neutral zone very well in particular," says Löwen trainer Ryan Foster.
He hopes that the return will come at the latest when one or the other key player returns.
The other face of the Tölzer Löwen
The Tölz coach stuck to the formation from the Höchstadt game on Friday with Erik Gollenbeck in the first attack and continued to rely on the services of Philip Lehr in goal.
However, he was replaced after twelve minutes by Josef Hölzl because he injured himself during a defensive action.
A diagnosis is still pending, as a precaution he was taken to the hospital.
Hölzl was then almost always on the post and kept Tölzer in the game for a long time.
Change pays off
They initially fell behind - not surprisingly, as the Blue Devils are the measure of all things in the premier league.
Hardly any weaknesses were seen on Sunday either, and Lukas Ribarik – brother of the lion defender Felix – completed a counterattack quite easily to make it 1-0 for the guests.
The lions were hardly disturbed by this, Sören Sturm equalized when the home side had established themselves in front of the goal of ex-Tölzer Marco Wölfl.
Defensively more organized than last
Even if some discs were lost, not every pass arrived: there was a clear improvement.
The change with Gollenbeck up front paid off – and not just because of the later opening goal.
The defense in particular was much more orderly than last time against Landsberg or Deggendorf.
The Tölzers kept up well, Tyler Ward even increased to 2:1 with a double majority after Elia Ostwald and Fabian Voit had to go to the penalty box almost at the same time.
Hölzl held what was to be held, with Tomas Rubes' solo he remained calm and defended, even in Weidener pressure phases and outnumbered the lions cleared well, then stood up to the table leader again and constantly created a goal threat with nice attacks.

Do not graze:
Washer not deep enough when changing
But the lions regained the lead when Erik Gollenbeck successfully completed a counterattack.
Florian Kästele could even have increased the lead.
"He plays very cleverly, the youngsters keep up well," Foster praises his talents, which get a lot of ice age.
However, Weiden kept his nerve in the manner of a top team and was ice cold when it came to scoring goals: Kurt Davis shot to make it 3:3, Fabian Voit curved in front of the Tölzer goal, played around Hölzl and pushed in to make it 4:3.
"If we changed before it was 3-3, we might have had to play the disc deeper," says Foster.
"But I think we're on the right track."
