The tension was palpable.

In the indoor soccer tournament for the Rosenheimer Sparkasse Cup, only a successful penalty shoot-out against local rivals (and partner club in the junior division) SV Ostermünchen separated TSV Emmering from entering the final.

Emmering - Because Martin Breu failed at the start of the opposing goalkeeper and then all other shooters kept their nerves, the TSV now had to hope for their goalkeeper.

Emmering's keeper Tobias Schütze had already guessed the direction of the two previous seven-meter shots, but had to let the ball pass each time.

At the third attempt in Easter Munich, the time had come.

Emmering's number one moved into the right corner again and was able to deflect the shot.

The numerous Emmeringer supporters who traveled with us on the stands of the Gabor Hall were loudly happy.

The dream of playing in the final again, like in 2016, seemed to be becoming a reality again.

But then the referee interrupted the Emmeringer cheers.

"He had the penalty shot repeated because he hadn't started before," Emmering's press spokesman Manuel Sedlmaier described the scene.

"That was a little weird.

It was so loud in the hall that you hardly heard a whistle anyway.

In addition, the people of Easter Munich have not complained at all.

They would have accepted it like that,” Sedlmaier had little understanding for the referee’s rule-compliant decision.

The SVO penalty shooter did not miss the second opportunity and sealed Emmeringer's elimination with his goal.

"It's a shame we didn't quite make it.

But we still achieved a lot during the tournament,” Sedlmaier was proud of the TSV district league kickers.

He had every reason to be.

Right at the start of the final tournament, the Emmeringers had built on their convincing performances from the preliminary and intermediate rounds.

Against the TuS Raubling (district league), the green-whites turned up the heat after an early deficit.

Simon Wimmer and Christof Kirchlechner put the district league team in a good starting position before the second and final group game against TSV 1880 Wasserburg (regional league) with their goals for a 2-1 victory - a draw should allow the team around coach Christian Kramlinger to advance to the semi-finals suffice.

However, the Emmeringer didn't even get involved in arithmetic games and began to attack the Wasserburger Löwen.

Christian Breu's brace put TSV on the road to victory.

Kirchlechner and Marinus Riedl followed suit, so that in the end an unchallenged 4-0 win meant the group win.

In the semifinals, there was drama against SV Ostermünchen.

After a 1-1 draw (goal scorer: Simon Wimmer) after regulation time, the Emmeringers had to admit defeat in the penalty shoot-out already described.

“Nevertheless, the entire tournament was great.

We played great indoor football and stood up to some higher-class teams,” Sedlmaier drew a positive conclusion.

In the game for third place, the record winner of the Sparkasse Cup, the Bayern division club TSV 1860 Rosenheim, felt the effects of this.

Emmering kept the upper hand 2:1 – goals by Kirchlechner and Leykam – and was allowed to be celebrated by around 300 supporters who had traveled with them.

In the end, it wasn't just the surprise final winner, Raubling (7:3 against Ostermünchen), who made his mark on the 43rd edition of the tournament.

TSV Emmering also left a lasting impression.
