Czech Petra Kvitova advanced to the second round of the Adelaide Australian Tennis Championships.

Kvitova qualified after defeating her opponent, Elina Rybakina, in two sets without a response, 6-3, 7-5, in an hour and 27 minutes.

Swiss Belinda Bencic also qualified for the same round after defeating Spain's Garbine Muguruza, the former world number one, in two sets without a response, 6-3, 6-4.
