The court in Iran sentenced footballer Amir Nasser-Azdani to a prison sentence of 26 years, effectively commuting the execution he was originally sentenced to.
Nasser-Azdani was accused last month of being involved in the murder of three members of the security forces in Iran.
According to reports, he was forced to confess to the act after participating in demonstrations in the country against the suppression of women's rights.

26-year-old Nasser-Ezdani is an active player who played in the Iranian league until he was tried.
His story was published around the world while he was sentenced to death, and even celebrities joined the protest against the Iranian regime.
The singer Shakira tweeted about the case during the World Cup final on December 18: "Today in the final, I hope the players on the field and the whole world will remember that there is a man and a footballer named Amir Nasser, who was sentenced to death, just because he spoke in favor of women's rights."
