Former world champion Thomas Müller is ready to restart the German national team after the big disappointment at the World Cup.
"As long as I'm a professional footballer, I'll always be available in the national team if I'm needed," said the 33-year-old on Monday at FC Bayern Munich's training camp in Qatar.
»The when, the if and the how – of course the national coach has to decide that.«
Müller's change of heart comes as a surprise to many.
Five and a half weeks ago, after the bitter end of the World Cup, Müller had already given a farewell speech to the TV camera after the game against Costa Rica (4: 2).
"I did it with love, you can be sure of that," he said at the time.
Now the 2014 world champion sounds optimistic again: You have to "deal" with all the frustration after the disastrous course of the World Cup for the DFB-Elf.
It's about "converting the pain into energy," said Müller.
Müller appeals to the national football spirit of the Germans
"Basically, regardless of personal details, we have to manage as a common football nation to play successful German men's football again," said Müller.
The preparation of the DFB selection by national coach Hansi Flick for the home European Championship 2024 begins in March.
Venues and opponents for the first international matches of the year between March 22nd and 28th have not yet been decided.
